Sump arrived
Ready for New Sump
Kind of a before and after view of the area we will place the new sump. Before on the left and after on the right. We will keep the older 55 gallon for a QT tank over the next year so moved to the other wall for the short term.
Sump is built and on a truck to Minnesota
Our sump is built and it is on it’s way to Minnesota. We hopefully will have a video out on it by the next week when we are ready to start to configure it and work with it, we are very excited.
Snail Eggs on the Glass, cool
Sometimes when you go to look at your reef aquarium you can get a little, and I mean little, surprise. Today was one of those days for as you can see by these great pics we found snail eggs.
Nano Reef of Beauty
Sometimes it is neat to see our progress on our larger reef tanks but also people can express and show beauty of a smaller type, the nano reefs. These are very popular systems and can be very cool. The difference really is how they are managed for the systems have less water volume and hence it takes a close eye on them for them to succeed. Here is a great one by NanoTopia.
This reef is managed with a DIY inspired setup of high quality, well organized equipment and currently on the ZEOvit system. This is truly one of the best little reefs we have seen and followed. =) See more of her photo shots below.

DIY How to Building our Reef Tank pt 1
First of a video series we are creating dedicated to our building of our new reef tank aka…Dream Tank
Cabinet and Canopy Unfinished, but looking great
Great wood work through Reef Savvy in Florida to get us a custom contracted cabinet and canopy done. The stand and canopy are almost ready, very exciting for us. The staining and clear coat will be done later by us along with the gas piston to keep it open. There might need to be a few small trim pieces to place by the floor and back wall also but it is looking great.
We hope to have this in our hands by June and have the staining and such done by July.
It will be a red oak stain to match the rest of the house.
Coral Feeding beginner video by BRS
We all start out feeding coral based on someone’s thoughts or recommendations. To aid in this we have shared a good video by our friends at BRS TV. This video gives a basic overview on feeding and really just helps to get people started on coral feeding correctly.
A wonderful Blenny to own and eats algae like crazy
The Lawnmower Blenny (Salarias fasciatus) is known as Algae Blenny, Jeweled Blenny, Jewelled Blenny, Banded Blenny and Banded jewelled blenny.
The Lawnmower Blenny lives in tropical parts of the Indo-Pacific.
The Lawnmower Blenny is primarily found on reef flats. The Lawnmower Blenny habitat consists of coral, rubble and/or sand. Lawnmower blennies stay close to the surface where rich algae grow. These guys can eat a lot of algae including many species of Hair Algae which can be a problem for the hobby.
They are reef safe if plenty of algae is present or supplemented. They typically get along well with other fish and only occasionally fight with same species tank mates.
For the beginner tank with little to no algae this is not the best fish but once algae starts to grow this fish is great.
